Members of the Yorktown Police Department were dispatched shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Friday, May 10, to a home in the area, where there was a report of a domestic incident involving two people.

According to police, the investigation determined that Quinlan Street resident Said Gjonbalaj struck his victim in the head with a closed fist, “causing physical injury and rendering his victim unconscious for a period of time.”

Police said that it is further alleged that the assault happened in front of two minors under the age of 17. At the time of his arrest, Gjonbalaj was also in possession of Xanax, which he did not have a prescription for.

Gjonbalaj was arrested and charged with third-degree assault, criminal possession of a controlled substance and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, all misdemeanors. Gjonbalaj was arraigned and released on a $250 cash bail.

A Temporary Order of Protection was issued on behalf of his victim. Gjonbalaj is scheduled to appear in Yorktown Justice Court on Tuesday, May 14 to respond to the charges.
